The “Kheila-kantele” ensemble of the Petrozavodsk Palace of Creativity

The ensemble is 30 years old. The head of the ensemble is Lyudmila Yuryeva. The philosophy of the ensemble is the promotion of the kantele instrument and folk music among children and adolescents. The history of the ensemble counts 300 children. Today the ensemble consists of 14 persons at the age from 9 to 16 years old.

The ensemble performs in different regions of Karelia, introduces and popularizes the Karelian folklore, traditions, songs and the instrument of kantele. This year the ensemble will participate at the festival #KalevalaMusicWheel. The ensemble differs from other similar children ensembles by playing the kantele and singing at the same time. Besides playing the folk music the ensemble plays the most modern music as well.
